Ambassador Profile
Carol Burrington - Sun Publications
Sun Publications of Overland Park has been Carol’s home away from home for 12 years running. Being a senior account representative, Carol’s territory allows her to handle many of Sun Publication’s larger accounts, while at the same time also working with troubled and specialty accounts. Using her invaluable experience at the Sun, she also serves as a mentor to the newer reps, helping them learn the ins and outs of the job.
Palermo-Burrington has seen many changes at Sun Publications and is looking forward to working with Mark Lane, the new publisher who hails from Wichita, Kansas. She also enjoys working on some of the newspapers special sections such as the Political Section. But according to Palermo-Burrington, her main enjoyment is the people she has met while on the job. “The people I help- helping people grow their business through advertising, is so rewarding, and lots of those same people have become my friends,” she exclaims.
Carol grew up in Kansas City, Missouri with her father involved in the produce business. She graduated from St.Teresa’s Academy. There she learned the value of self-discipline, an attribute she has relied on throughout her life.
“I’ve always been in communications,” Carol said, “and started out in Radio and Television.” For ten years, before starting a family, Carol worked for a company that produced a daily radio show, and occasionally she did on-air commercials. She served as secretary to the manager of the Engineering Department, who had 32 engineers that answered to him. As if this did not keep her busy enough, Carol was attending Rockhurst College at night.
She has been a single parent for 18 years, raising four children, one boy and three girls while keeping up a home in Leawood, Kansas for the last twenty-six years. During that time Carol has worked for K.C. Masterpiece and the Squire, working on its magazine staff. She was hired by Dr. Davis at K.C. Masterpiece to be a liaison between the company and its many brokers. “He told me he needed someone outgoing, friendly and who could make his brokers feel that they we’re an integral part of the company,” said Palermo-Burrington. She definitely fit the bill!
When she is not out taking care of her clients, Carol enjoys movies, reading and “loves” her jazzercise class that she took up a year ago. “It makes me feel so good,” she imparted. But first and foremost, her family is her top outside interest! Her youngest daughter is off to K-State to begin her sophomore year, and last year, one of the other daughters was ordained an Episcopal priest.
She has been involved with the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce for over three years, with this last year also selected to be a member of the Chairman’s Ambassadors. Palermo-Burrington finds her affiliation with the Chamber very worthwhile both in a business sense and friendship wise. “I’ve really enjoyed the friendships I have made through the Ambassadors, they are a great group and we all get along so well!”
