Lenexa Chamber Update
 


Leadership Lenexa, a program of the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce, was developed to educate area business and community professionals in various aspects affecting life and business in our community and surrounding areas.

LEADERSHIP LENEXA VIDEO

The program provides participants the opportunity to explore and strengthen personal leadership competencies and helps them determine where they might use their skills whether in elected office or volunteer work.

Upon completion of the program, graduates have developed a keen sense of awareness about community issues and have an increased motivation to assume responsible community and workplace roles.

Participation in Leadership Lenexa:
Broadens community perspectives. Explores leadership skills.
Builds working relationships among class members. Encourages and develops a network of community contacts. Provides the opportunity to hear from some of the area’s top business and community leaders. Keeps you connected –the Leadership Lenexa Alumni Association participates in community projects and offers volunteer opportunities. For newcomers, Leadership Lenexa is a thorough orientation to the community.

Participants who have completed the program will receive a framed certificate and key to the City of Lenexa.  Chamber members and Leadership Lenexa alumni celebrate with the graduating class at a luncheon event.

During the course of the program, participants will be required
to attend a Lenexa City Council meeting. 

Class Project
Class is responsible for selection and development of a project which is to be completed prior to graduation.

Sessions are full day (approximately 8am-5pm).

Attendance at each session is required in order to graduate from the program.  One session may be excused if approved by the program director and co-chairmen.

A $25 application fee must accompany your application.

Program Tuition
Tuition for the program is $775 for Lenexa Chamber members. 
The fee for non-chamber members is $875 ($100 of your tuition will be applied towards Chamber membership should you decide to join.)

Tuition covers all transportation, materials, meals, graduation luncheon and first year of Alumni Association dues.
DO NOT SEND TUITION WITH YOUR APPLICATION.
You will be invoiced after you application is accepted.

Session 1: January 26th Orientation
Class introductions and Management by Strengths leadership survey.
Learn how to work more effectively with others by understanding the fundamental strengths and weaknesses of your personality. 

Session 2: February 9th
Game of Politics
 

Organize a campaign through a mock political game.

Session 3: February 29th
State Government,
Capitol Ideas in Topeka*

Travel by bus to meet officials from the executive, legislative and judicial branches of our state government.

Session 4: March 22nd
Education,
Where Leadership Begins
 
While visiting area schools examine current technology and trends in education.  Participate in discussions with school officials, teachers and students about the challenges and opportunities they face daily.

Session 5: April 5th
Team Building at Tomahawk Ridge
 
Spend a day outdoors facing physical and mental challenges!  Opportunities for exploring leadership styles and skills, team leader relationships and management leadership scenarios are all part of this session.  A fun, education and very memorable experience!

Session 6: April 19th
Johnson County*

Tour county facilities including the new state-of-the-art crime lab.  Meet county officials and learn about a variety of county departments.

Session 7: May 8th
Regionalism*

Learn more about the key issues that impact the metro area through tours and presentations from area leaders.

Session 8: May 24th
Economic Development

Learn why Economic Development in Lenexa is big business. Visit some of Lenexa’s greatest success stories and find out what it takes to attract and retain businesses in our community.
 
Session 9: June 7th
City of Lenexa
 
Participants will tour the city and get a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and the people who work to keep Lenexa working on a daily basis.
