CITY CENTER PROGRESS REPORTS
At the April 18 membership luncheon, Lenexa Chamber members heard from Keith Copaken of Copaken, White and Blitt, master developer for the city-owned property on the southwest corner of Lenexa's new city center, and Ralph Varnum of Varnum/Armstrong/Deeter, who is leading the team developing City Center East, located on the southeast corner. They also received an update from Tom Kelly of the Golf Club of Kansas, which is being developed directly to the west of City Center.
The southwest corner is composed of 60 acres or two million square feet. The area surrounding City Center, west of I-35, was likened to southern Johnson County 15 years ago, wih the demographics even stronger than the Zona Rosa and Legends area. Copaken indicated that Lenexa demographics will shift within the next 15 years, with 40,000 new people living west of I-35.
Varnum reported on North and East Villages that will be composed of 67 acres. He said that th new 87th Street will be similar to a street in downtown Kansas City. The first two buildings in East Village will break ground in June of this year.
Tom Kelly reported that the golf course to the west of City Center is 90% complete. Luncheon sponsor was Re/Max Realty Suburban and the Blaufuss Team.
