COUNCILMEMBER DAN SULLIVAN TO RESIGN WHEN HE MOVES OUTSIDE OF THE CITY
Dan Sullivan, who has served this community as a Ward 3 councilmember for the past 10 years, has announced that he will resign from his position later this month when he moves outside of Lenexa.
Sullivan said he plans to move to Mission Hills, KS where his family has previous ties. His last day on the council will be Oct. 20.
“Dan has been a dedicated servant to the Lenexa community for over 10 years as a councilman and member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. His leadership, creativity and attention to detail have been of great value to the council,” said Mayor Mike Boehm. “Dan’s calm, reflective demeanor and focus on the big picture helped guide the community through a number of complicated issues over the years. We will miss him as a colleague and a friend, and wish him well in the future.”
Sullivan, who holds bachelor’s degrees in architecture and accounting and works as an architect with Ellerbe Becket, brought a great deal of creative perspective and knowledge to the council. During his tenure on the council, Sullivan was involved in setting policy to foster quality community development. Some of the projects that were initiated or completed during Sullivan’s service include Rain to Recreation, the city’s regional watershed approach to treating storm water as a community asset rather than a problem; Lake Lenexa and Black Hoof Park; the 87th Street, I-35, U.S. 69 Interchange; Prairie Star Parkway; numerous important residential and commercial development projects, including the planning for City Center; and, implementation of the goals in Vision 2020 and Vision 2030.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community during the past 10 years,” Sullivan said. “Lenexa is a great city with such a rich history and a bright future. While I’m excited about this new opportunity in my life, I will always treasure the friendships I’ve made during my time here in Lenexa.”
Per city code, Mayor Boehm will appoint a replacement for Sullivan’s council seat within 30 days of the vacancy. Residents of Ward 3 interested in being considered for the appointment should submit a resume and cover letter to the mayor’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30.
