KMBC 9 NEWS WINS MORE EMMY AWARDS THAN ANY OTHER KANSAS CITY TELEVISION STATION!
KANSAS CITY, MO (October 5, 2009) KMBC 9 News won nearly every major award at the 33RD Annual Mid-American Emmy Awards held this past weekend in St. Louis. Six Emmys were awarded to KMBC 9 News in these prestigious categories:
Best Morning Newscast – Producers Troy Diggs, Chris Meggs, Jason Ridder
Best Evening Newscast – Producer Dennis Sulsberger
Best Weather Coverage – Bryan Busby, Lisa Teachman, Johnny Rowlands
Education/Schools News Coverage – Maria Antonia, Tim Twyman
Best Breaking News Coverage – News Director Sherrie Brown
Overall News Excellence – News Director Sherrie Brown

KMBC 9 News earned best morning newscast, best evening newscast and best breaking news for coverage of tornadoes that touched down in Kansas City North in May of 2008. Many homes and businesses were destroyed by this violent storm. KMBC’s outstanding coverage, on the ground and in the air, helped alert metro residents to the approaching threat and update families on critical outages and closings. KMBC also received Emmy distinction for overall news excellence. The award recognizes the consistent quality of news and weather reporting produced by KMBC 9 News every day.
