OVERLAND PARK REGIONAL APPOINTS NEW CEO

Overland Park, Kan. – Gay Nord has been appointed chief executive officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center (OPRMC) effective June 1, 2009. The search for the new CEO of the medical center was conducted by a search committee comprised of Board of Trustee members with additional input from physicians representing our medical staff and the hospital’s senior management team.

“Gay’s experience and stellar performance as a hospital executive at HCA Kingwood Medical Center in Houston will be a tremendous asset for Overland Park Regional and HCA Midwest Health System,” says Steve Corbeil, president of HCA Midwest Health System. Corbeil is currently serving as OPRMC’s interim chief executive officer. “We are thrilled to have someone of her caliber join us to lead one of our busiest and strategically important hospitals.”

Since 2004, Nord has served as the chief of HCA Kingwood Medical Center, a 211-bed hospital in Houston, Texas. While leading the facility, she developed and implemented a multi-year plan to transform the hospital’s culture and image, add services and enhance service lines. The plan helped the hospital capture market share in a highly competitive market.

“Gay’s key strengths of engaging physicians and employees, boards and the community are what attracted the OPRMC Board of Trustees to her,” says Christopher Miller, OPRMC Board of Trustees chairman and search committee member. “We are looking forward to working with Gay to continue OPRMC along the path of excellence in patient care and service to the community.”

As CEO of Overland Park Regional Medicine Center, Nord will be responsible for developing and overseeing the hospital’s vision and securing support for this vision from key constituents including the Board of Trustees, medical staff, employees and the community.

“Gay will be an excellent addition to our community and medical center,” says Ujjaval Patel, MD, vice –chair of the Board of Trustees and cardiologist. “She has a vision for our hospital that includes honest, open communication, transparency and availability to our physicians, board members, employees and community.  I am delighted to work with her and know she will be a strong leader in our hospital and the community.”

In addition to guiding the hospital’s vision, she is ultimately responsible for the hospital’s culture and image and development of growth plans for new services and programs. She also will oversee the hospital’s relationships with its medical staff; physician recruitment and development; satisfaction of patients, physicians and employees; quality assurance; and financial health.

“I am looking forward to Gay joining our team,” says Shari Collier, OPRMC chief financial officer. “She is a proven leader with strong relationship skills, and her expertise will contribute to continued growth in volume and quality at OPRMC.
