DAMOND BOATWRIGHT APPOINTED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, OVERLAND PARK REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
Accomplished healthcare executive will further the hospital’s position at renowned medical center.
Kansas City, MO – HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare network, has appointed Damond Boatwright chief executive officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Boatwright will assume responsibility of the 350-bed acute-care hospital, one of the busiest in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area, on Oct. 17, 2011. Overland Park Regional Medical Center was recently named one of the nation's top performing hospitals on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the nation's leading accreditor of health care organizations.
Since 2007, Boatwright has served as the chief executive officer of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System. During Boatwright’s leadership, The Joint Commission also named Lee’s Summit Medical Center as one of the nation’s top performing hospitals on key quality measures. Only four hospitals—all HCA Midwest—received this honor in Kansas City. In 2009, Boatwright was a recipient of Modern Healthcare’s 23rd annual prestigious “Up and Comer” award. He is also heavily involved in myriad community organizations and has served as the American Heart Association’s Kansas City Heart Walk co-chair for several years. This month, Boatwright was named to the national list of “Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” in Becker’s Hospital Review, which recognized selected leaders in prominent American health care organizations.
“Damond has a strong knowledge of the Greater Kansas City and Johnson County areas and an impressive ability to form strong, credible and lasting partnerships with employees and physicians,” says Steve Corbeil, president of HCA Midwest Health System. “He is the perfect fit to lead Overland Park Regional Medical Center into the future as it prepares to undergo a multi-million-dollar, unprecedented expansion.”
Darryl Nelson, MD, HCA Midwest Health System Medical Director for Quality, says Boatwright’s appointment reflects HCA Midwest’s commitment to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. “Damond is a highly effective leader and an accomplished hospital administrator who has both deep roots in our community and in our healthcare system,” says Nelson. “His dedication and passion for working with physicians and staff to make an impact in the patient experience make him the ideal CEO for Overland Park Regional Medical Center.”
Boatwright says the combination of some of the Kansas City area’s best talent in physicians and surgeons, advanced technologies in heart, stroke, neonatal intensive care and women’s care, and a planned expansion at Overland Park Regional Medical Center offer an unmatched continuum of care for residents of Johnson County. “The cohesive team at Overland Park Regional Medical Center collaborates to deliver not only excellent and compassionate patient care, but also the best possible outcomes and support for patients during their treatment,” says Boatwright. “I am proud to be a part of that.”
Boatwright says people living in the area have progressive and innovative programs for their health needs at their fingertips. “Overland Park Regional Medical Center is an exemplary hospital, and I’m excited to help continue the HCA Midwest unique patient-centered approach through the strengths of the Medical Center’s care for high-risk pregnancies, neonatal care, heart care, neurosciences and the Trauma Center – just to name a few.”
Corbeil says Boatwright will help reinforce and drive the continued growth Overland Park Regional Medical Center has experienced in high-quality, coordinated patient care. “Damond’s experience, knowledge and excellent performance at Lee’s Summit Medical Center will help advance HCA Midwest Health System’s philosophy and mission of top-notch patient care,” he says.
