DAVID OWEN TO RECEIVE OU'S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
OTTAWA, Kansas – The Ottawa University Alumni Association is pleased to honor alumnus David Owen ’60 with its 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding career, life accomplishments, and strong sense of ethics consistent with an OU education. The award will be presented during the University’s annual Reunion Celebration Alumni Awards Banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, on The College campus, 1001 S. Since 2004, Owen has been the chairman and CEO of ICOP Digital, Inc., with responsibility for the overall strategic direction, growth and leadership of the organization, as well as general oversight of its financial structure. Headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas, ICOP Digital, Inc. is a leading provider of mobile video solutions for law enforcement, fire, EMS, military, and transportation markets worldwide.
Owen has more than 40 years’ experience in the financial industry, having served as chairman, president and CEO of two banks in the Kansas City area and as regional manager for Stephens, Inc., an investment banking firm located in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and in the financial reporting requirements of public companies.
As part of his public service history, Owen has served as State Senator and Lt. Governor of Kansas. His other civic and political activities span several decades and include being a delegate to the Republican National Convention, chairman of the Republican Party of Kansas, general finance chairman of the Dole for President committee, co-chairman of the NAIA Champions of Character leadership committee, a member of the Board of Trustees of Ottawa University, and chairman of the Heart to Heart International Finance Committee, among others. He currently serves on the Board of the Greater Kansas City Fellowship of Christian Athletes, on Ottawa University’s President’s Council, and is president of the OU Braves Athletic Hall of Fame.
Owen has been a generous benefactor for Ottawa University and has led various fundraising initiatives, such as an endowed scholarship for the OU Braves Athletic Hall of Fame, the Dudley Geise Champions of Character Award and the naming of the Bill “Bo” Boucek Track.
Owen received post-graduate training at Ohio State University and Rutgers University in conjunction with the American Bankers Association. He is married to Laura Owen and the couple has three daughters, two stepsons, and four grandsons. Recreationally, Owen is an instrument rated private pilot and was a professional rodeo cowboy from 1977-1990.
