TERRACON'S NAMED #46 ON ENR'S 2009 TOP 500 DESIGN FIRMS LIST
OLATHE, Kan. --- Engineering News-Record (ENR) ranked Terracon number 46 on its 2009 Top 500 Design Firms list, showing Terracon’s consistent growth above industry average, as evidenced by a ranking of 65 in 1999.
In addition to the “Top Design Firm” category, ENR ranked Terracon as the 17th largest design firm in the Top 20 "General Building" (commercial) market, 19th in the list of Top 20 “Telecommunications” design firms and 26th in the list of Top 100 "Pure" designers.
ENR annually surveys the construction industry to determine the 500 largest U.S.-based engineering, architectural and environmental design firms. The rankings are based on design-specific revenue generated by each company.
“Currently, we are all acutely aware that we are in the middle of a significant national and global economic recession,” said David Gaboury, P.E., president and CEO. “Despite these conditions, Terracon finished 2008 with revenues equal to 2007 and a strong balance sheet and cash position.
Even as the economy slipped into what has become a deep recession, most of Terracon’s business sectors produced double-digit growth in 2008, with the results for traditional power generation and transmission, renewable energy and the National Accounts Program particularly strong. Terracon also achieved growth in the transportation and infrastructure, telecommunications and sustainability sectors.
Also during 2008, to expand capabilities, geographic coverage and drilling operations, Terracon acquired NTL Engineering & Geoscience in Great Falls, Mont., High Plains Drilling in Denver, Colo., and Aquadrill, Inc., in Swisher, Iowa. The acquisitions help Terracon expand our ability to serve clients more effectively, cover the state of Montana for all service lines and perform large drilling jobs.
“Though 2009 will continue to be a challenging year, I cannot help but be confident that we will work through this, take advantage of the opportunities that emerge and be stronger and better positioned as the economy recovers,” Gaboury said.
Terracon is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm providing geotechnical, environmental, construction materials and facilities services from nearly 100 offices nationwide with more than 2,500 employees. For additional information about Terracon, please visit www.terracon.com.
