TERRACON NAMED #41 ON ENR'S 2010 TOP 500 DESIGN FIRMS LIST

OLATHE, Kan. --- Engineering News-Record (ENR) ranked Terracon #41 on its 2010 Top 500 Design Firms list, jumping five spots from #46 in 2009, showing Terracon’s consistent performance above industry average.

In addition to the Top Design Firm category, ENR ranked Terracon as the 18th largest design firm in the Top 20 General Building (commercial) market, 17th in the list of Top 20 Telecommunications design firms and 21st in the list of Top 100 ‘Pure’ designers.

ENR annually surveys the construction industry to determine the 500 largest U.S.-based engineering, architectural and environmental design firms. The rankings are based on design-specific revenue generated by each company.

Terracon’s total revenues were $327 million for 2009. Terracon’s top four sectors (Commercial/Retail, State/Local Government, Industry/Agriculture and Energy) accounted for 82 percent of revenues in total. Within the State/Local Government Sector, revenues from Transportation/Infrastructure projects were up nearly 20 percent in 2009. In addition, the Federal Sector grew rapidly with nearly 300‑percent growth.

In 2009, Terracon acquired three highly-reputable companies in the southeastern United States. Gallet & Associates, Inc., Aquaterra Engineering, LLC and WPC, Inc. joined forces with Terracon, growing the Southeast region from 11 to 30 offices. Additionally, Terracon acquired the Redmond, Wash., construction materials office of AMEC and IAQ Consultants, Inc. in Dallas to strengthen and expand services.

“The prolonged and severe national economic conditions have brought obvious challenges,” said David Gaboury, P.E., president and CEO. “It has also brought us less obvious, but no less real, opportunity. We have worked hard to effectively address both the challenges and opportunities, and as a result we are a stronger company today due to our strong, diverse client base.”

Terracon is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm with more than 2,700 employees providing geotechnical, environmental, construction materials and facilities services from more than 100 offices in 38 states nationwide. For additional information about Terracon, please visit
