MEET LENEXA:

Transportation and Infrastructure

Seamless access. Strategic advantage.

Lenexa is a city built to keep your business moving. Kansas City is located within 200 miles of the geographic center of the continental United States – and Lenexa occupies a strategic location within the Kansas City metropolitan area, offering exceptional transportation and logistics accessibility.

Highways

Lenexa provides unparalleled access to both north-south and east-west highway networks. Three major highways – I-35, I-435, and K-10 – intersect in Lenexa, known as “The Gateway” interchange, and another four important highway corridors either run through or lie within minutes of Lenexa – I-70, U.S. 69, K-7, and I-49.

This excellent highway access supports highly efficient freight movement, reaching nearly any destination in the U.S. within days, and makes it easy for suppliers, customers, and workforce talent to reach Lenexa.

Air

Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is 27 miles north of Lenexa, directly accessible via I-435. KCI’s new modern airport terminal was completed in early 2023, offering both domestic and international flights. Kansas City International consistently ranks among the lowest in delays of all U.S. airports, due to its uncongested air and ground space, short taxi time, and low weather-related closure/cancellation rate.

Kansas City International also moves more air cargo each year than any air center in a six-state region.

Additional airports serving the Lenexa area:

  • Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport(MKC), is located 15 miles north of Lenexa, in downtown Kansas City. It easily accommodates anything from single-engine propeller craft to corporate jets, serving corporate, charter, and recreational aircraft.
  • Johnson County Executive Airport, 9 miles southwest of Lenexa, is the fourth busiest towered airport in Kansas, serving private business jets and general aviation.
  • New Century AirCenter, 16 miles from Lenexa, is where air, rail, and highway come together in a true multimodal logistics center. New Century provides general aviation services for small single-engine jets, business and cargo jets.
Rail & Logistics Centers

The Kansas City region is located at the heart of rail corridors spanning the country and is the largest rail center in the U.S. by tonnage. Lenexa offers some rail-served areas.

Two major railways also serve intermodal logistics centers within miles of Lenexa. Logistics Park Kansas City, a world-class inland port located 20 miles south of Lenexa and directly accessible by I-35, is served by BNSF Railway.

I-49 Logistics Center, located 20 miles east of Lenexa and accessible by I-435 and I-49, is served by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad.
